Building a Holistic Innovation Ecosystem

Through the review of the Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council’s non-linear innovation programmes—One Local Government One Idea, One District, One Idea, Young Innovators Programme, Kerala Knowledge Economy Mission, and emerging technologies in governments—the article explores the building of a holistic innovation ecosystem in Kerala by the K-DISC.

Innovations and Firm Performance in Informal Manufacturing Enterprises

Based on an empirical analysis of 300 informal manufacturing firms in the National Capital Region of Delhi, the paper finds that innovative firms exhibit higher productivity growth and sales growth, underscoring the significance of the local market for informal manufacturing enterprises. This paper further provides empirical evidence on the firm-level innovations and their implications for the informal sector, which is the key source of employment, livelihood, and social transformation.


The Need for an Innovation Survey in India

Mainstream measures of innovation at both the macro and micro levels, measure only a part and not the full extent of innovation that occurs in India, and, by and large, ignore the emerging innovation activities occurring in the service and informal sectors. There is a need for evidence of other forms of innovation to complement these measures to accurately present a holistic picture of innovations in developing countries like India.
