IT is unfortunate that even front-rank economists like Prabhat Patnaik (PP) view the Nobel Prize in economics, and indeed the profession of economies, with a certain prejudice. It is even more regrettable that PP has taken the happy occasion of Amartya Sen's receiving the prize to have a dig at the Nobel Committee's past choices and also at so-called conservative, mainstream economics (Amartya Sen and the Theory of Public Action', November 7).
