The Politics behind Jharkhand's Domicile Policy

The cynical manipulation of the state's people by Jharkhand's political class on the domicile policy issue is leading to resentment and distrust, especially between the tribals and non-tribals. These leaders are raking up the "outsiders" issue to divert attention from corruption and poor governance that they have subjected the state to.

The politics of domicile in Jharkhand is not new and has its roots in the struggle for a separate state. It was believed by many who participated in the struggle, particularly tribal leaders, that a separate state would ensure prosperity. Unfortunately, after over a decade, the people of the state feel cheated and disillusioned. Jharkhand is known more for its poor governance, political instability, corruption, and scams rather than development and prosperity with its leaders and politicians responsible in a big way for this state of affairs.
