Brahminical Arrogance
The recent slandering of B R Ambedkar by a scholar at an academic conference in Hyderabad typifies the hydra-headed character of the Hindutva project. There are scholars of such a persuasion who speak a secular language, and yet defame the anti-caste movement. All this while the political party in charge of Hindutva pays tribute to Ambedkar.
I would like to express my thanks to Karthik Navayana, a research scholar at the English and Foreign Language University, Hyderabad for providing me with the necessary material.
On 27 November 2015, DailyO.in, a commentary-oriented online site of the India Today group, published an article by S N Balagangadhara, a professor at the Ghent University in Belgium. Titled “Which Intolerance Is Growing in India?”, the article was a response to the indignation spreading against Balagangadhara for his abusive references to B R Ambedkar while speaking in an international conference held in early November 2015 at the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad. Instead of being apologetic, Balagangadhara justified his contempt for Ambedkar and repeated his ridicule saying, “he outshines the genius of Alia Bhatt.”
