I read with interest the article by Vivek Kumar “How Egalitarian Is Indian Sociology?” (EPW, 18 June 2016).
The author has taken much effort to show how upper castes dominate sociology. To me it is very simple—it does not require elaborate arguments or proof. The question rather is, why only sociology? All disciplines in higher education are so dominated for the simple reason that upper castes had the first opportunity. Dalits had no access even to literacy, let alone higher education.
