Bastariya Battallion

A “Bastariya Battalion” is being formed in Bastar, Chhattisgarh. The state government has announced that local Adivasi youth would be recruited into this battalion. What is the reason to ­recruit local people into a military formation that is meant to control the same people?

The battalion is to facilitate the displacement of indigenous people. This is one among the tactics of displacement deployed by the ruling classes in India.
