On 21 November 2016, Mulayam Singh Yadav, the Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and father of the Uttar Pradesh (UP) Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, inaugurated the 326 kilometre (km) Agra–Lucknow Expressway, completed in a record time of 22 months. The official inauguration was also marked by a touchdown of six Indian Air Force planes—Mirage and Sukhoi—on a 3.5 km stretch of the highway prepared as a runway. Among the many other firsts that the expressway achieved was also the fact that the land for it was acquired in only six months without major hurdles and protests.
