Remembering Eleanor Zelliot

Eleanor Zelliot (7 October 1926–5 June 2016), Laird Bell Professor of History (1969–97) at Carleton College, Minnesota, started visiting India in the 1960s to pioneer her study of the Dalit movement led by B R Ambedkar. She wrote around 80 articles and edited three books. The topics of her writings range from the Dalit movement—social and literary—to saint-poets of medieval India as well as the Ambedkar-inspired Buddhist movement.
