Misdiagnosis of the Lynching Problem

An ill-equipped police force subservient to the political executive fails to investigate crimes and ensure conviction.

 

On 5 April 2017, Pehlu Khan was assaulted in broad daylight by a mob of more than 200 people, and died later from his injuries. 

On 17 July 2018, a petition filed by Tehseen Poonawalla took note of the increasing instances of mob violence across the country and sought formulation of guidelines to the state and union governments in order to reduce instances of mob lynching and punish perpetrators according to the law.
