Bringing Economic History Back into Curriculums

The 2008 economic crisis posed challenges not just to falling economies and financial markets but also to economics pedagogy. There was widespread criticism on how economics curriculum over the years has become narrow and unidimensional. The subject of economics, which was once famous for several schools and thoughts, has been limited to just one school—neoclassical—where markets usually find equilibrium. In case they do not, limited policy intervention is all that is needed.

The book under review tries to highlight how economics as a discipline was a plural field. In the words of authors, “this volume is a history of economics as it was interpreted, discussed and established as a discipline in the 20th century.”
