Distorted Narratives on Cuba
It is imperative that the inhuman blockade imposed by the United States is lifted.
Satyendra Ranjan writes:
Recent anti-government protests in Cuba gave an opportunity to the Western capitalist establishments to launch a tirade against socialist systems of the world in a decades-old manner. Cuba has been a target of such and more severe campaigns of the West since the inception of its socialist system in 1959. It seems to be a mission of the United States (US) administrations since then to denounce and try to cripple the Cuban economic model just to show the world that socialism is unworkable. As the Western corporate media plunged with glee in over-reporting and exaggerating the extent and scope of recent demonstrations in Cuba, US president Joe Biden found it an opportune moment to again declare the project of communism a universally failed system and socialism cannot be a very useful substitute. In the Western narratives, those protests were presented as a proof of the “authoritarian” and “repressive” nature of the Cuban socialist regime. What was missing in this whole narrative is the role of the US blockade of Cuba in making people’s lives miserable. Even food and medicine supplies are not exempted from this six-decade-long blockade.
