Humanitarian Crisis in Afghanistan
.
The recently announced decision of the United States’ (US) President Joe Biden to unfreeze Afghanistan’s financial assets worth $7 billion in the US banks and divert half of these, that is, $3.5 billion, to help the 9/11 attack victims has faced justified criticism all over the world, including from within the US.
Of course, everyone wants the 9/11 victims to be helped, but this should be done using the US’s own money, at least till such time that the definite responsibility of another country’s government can be fully established. Not even one of the 20 attackers involved in the 9/11 attacks was from Afghanistan. There is no firm evidence yet that the Taliban government—then in power in Afghanistan—had prior knowledge of the 9/11 attacks, let alone complicity.
