The Delhi Police’s investigation of sexual harassment has adopted a problematic approach.

According to recent media reports, the Delhi Police has asked for video and audio “proof” of sexual harassment from the complainants in the ongoing sexual harassment case against the president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). This raises several concerns about the investigation protocols that are followed by the police in sexual offences such as sexual harassment, assault with intent to outrage the modesty of women, and stalking. The WFI case presents a stark example of these concerns—the lack of sensitivity and victim-centric approach taken by Indian investigative authorities and the blatant violation of settled legal norms.
