Victims and Vehicles of Patronage

Government schoolteachers work in fairly challenging and complex conditions, often with contradictory pressures. Besides reforms, it is equally important to analyse the systemic issues in the management that act as a drag on government schools. This is also significant in the contemporary situation where we are either dismissive of the role of the teachers or expect them to uphold high moral grounds, oblivious to their toxic working ambience.  

Land, Labour and Power

Based on the restudy in 2012-14 of Jamgod in Dewas district of Madhya Pradesh, which was first studied by Adrian C Mayer in the 1950s, an overview of changes in landownership and use, and the relations of labour and production are presented. Locating the analysis at the intersection of land and labour, the aim is to explore how local power structures and personal aspirations have transformed.

A Tale of Continued Oppression

The recent violence and destruction inflicted on tribal villages in certain districts of MP is another instance of continued state-supported repression on groups who are seeking greater autonomy and challenging tyranny and corruption.
